Ms Saima Waseem

MMedSc MBBS PGCert FRCS (Tr and Orth)

 

Ms Saima Waseem is a Specialty Registrar in Trauma and Orthopaedics currently on the Percivall Pott rotation, working in Shoulder and Elbow surgery at the Royal London Hospital. She trained in Medicine at the University of Southampton, gaining a First Class Honours Master of Medical Sciences alongside her MBBS, before completing Foundation and Core Surgical Training across London and the East of England. Her orthopaedic training has spanned a broad range of subspecialties, including paediatrics at Great Ormond Street, sarcoma at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, and shoulder and elbow surgery at Addenbrooke's Hospital, and she is currently undertaking a Masters in Medical Education at the University of Oxford. She has further developed her upper limb interest through international observerships with leading shoulder and elbow surgeons at UCSF, Mayo Clinic, and across Canada.

Saima has a strong record in research and education, with numerous peer-reviewed publications and national / international presentations focused on shoulder and elbow arthroplasty, alongside wider trauma and orthopaedic topics. She currently holds two competitive research grants — from the British Elbow and Shoulder Society and the Gwen Fish Fund — investigating implant survival in shoulder arthroplasty using the National Joint Registry. Within the Percivall Pott Club, Saima has taken on multiple leadership roles, including Secretary, Membership Lead, and Sponsorship Lead (raising over £69,000 across two years for the annual scientific meeting), and was named Tom Bucknill Registrar of the Year 2025 in recognition of outstanding feedback across her training placements. She remains deeply committed to trainee education, serving as faculty and convenor for the Percivall Pott ST3 Course and as an ATLS instructor.
